Wine lovers will have reason to rejoice the week of August 26th. The Capitol
Theatre and the Cedar Lee Theatre will be screening the new documentary SOMM
about the Court of Master Sommeliers. Directed by Cleveland native, Jason
Wise, SOMM is a humorous, emotional and illuminating look into a
mysterious world.
The film screens at the
Capitol Theatre (1390 W. 65th St., Cleveland) on Tuesday, August
27th at 7:00 PM and at the Cedar Lee Theatre (2163 Lee Rd., Cleveland Hts.) on
Wednesday, August 28th at 7:00 PM. There will be a Q&A via Skype with
Jason Wise following each showing.
Tasting events before each
screening will be held at the following partner locations:
Toast (1365 W. 65th St.)
will be hosting a tasting event with Master Sommelier Matt Citriglia (featured
in the film) starting at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, August 27th before the screening
at the Capitol Theatre. Space is limited and advance purchase is necessary for
the tasting event. Tickets to the Toast tasting event are $30 (includes
admission to the film) and can be purchased at clevelandcinemas.com or at the
Capitol Theatre box office. Tickets to the Toast tasting event must be
purchased in advance by 5:00 PM on Monday, August 26th.
The Wine Spot (2271 Lee Rd.)
will be hosting a tasting event starting at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, August 28th
before the screening at the Cedar Lee Theatre. Space is limited and
advance purchase is necessary for the tasting event. Tickets to the Wine Spot
tasting event are $30 (includes admission to the film) and can be purchased at
clevelandcinemas.com or at the Cedar Lee Theatre box office. Tickets to the
Wine Spot tasting event must be purchased in advance by 5:00 PM on Tuesday,
August 27th.
Tickets for the film only
are $10 can be purchased at the theatre box offices or clevelandcinemas.com in
advance or the day of the screening.
Additional event happening
in conjunction to the screenings of SOMM: Taste (2317 Lee Rd.) is
hosting blind wine tastings August 26th - 29th from 5:00 PM - 9:30 PM.
Each participant will receive three 2½ oz pours of selected wines, each in its
own stem. A note sheet will also be provided for the tasters to make
their own observations, aroma and flavor profile descriptions etc. Then
each will be asked to identify the selections by varietal, country, region and
age. The answers will be provided by the bar staff. Tastings will
be conducted at the bar and the lounge areas. The cost will be $10.00 plus tax
and gratuity.
